Before deciding to invest in solar panels, a frequently asked question is'How long will my plate last?'. Well, most plates have a lifespan of 20 - 30 years, but many can last up to 40 years of operation. However, what happens to our plates when they reach the end of their life?

How are solar panels recycled?

One of the main components of solar panels is silicon, which is why it was necessary to regulate the future of the panels. Since July 1, 2016, the European directive has been in force, which requires installers to collect and recycle used solar panels free of charge. Therefore, families should not pay any expenses for extraction operations, thus ensuring good practice for this type of material.

Why are solar panels sustainable?

Each installed panel provides 55 kg less CO₂. Therefore, an average installation of 10 panels provides 550 kg less. It is estimated that, in a few years, all solar panels installed in Europe, they have managed to emit 6,000 tons less CO₂. Based on these data, it is considered a sector with a double positive impact on the environment, because on the one hand, CO₂ emissions are reduced, and on the other, the plates are almost completely recycled.
