Property Tax (IBI)
More and more municipalities in Spain are committed to a sustainable future and are offering IBI bonuses to those who install photovoltaic systems. In 2025, these grants can amount to up to 50% discount for 12 years, depending on the location.
What is needed?
Although the requirements vary by municipality, in most cases you will be asked to:
- Building permit
- Technical study and end of work certificate
- Legalization of the installation
Many of these procedures must be managed and signed by a certified engineer.
Barcelona: Up to 50% for 3 years.
Madrid: Up to 50% for 3 years.
Balearic Islands: Up to 50% for 5 years.
Alicante: Up to 50% for 3 years.
Murcia: Up to 50% for 5 years.

Construction, Installations and Works Tax (ICIO)
To install solar panels, it is mandatory to have a building permit and pay the ICIO (Construction Tax).
In 2025, many municipalities are offering bonuses of up to 95% of the ICIO for solar installations.

Personal Income Tax Deduction
The Government aims by the end of 2025 for homeowners to tax their solar panels on the Income statement of this exercise.
In order to promote the rehabilitation of buildings and housing within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, the Government has approved a new 60% personal income tax deduction, for the 2025 income tax return.
Who can access these deductions?
La Personal income tax deduction is up to 60% for all types of owned homes that meet the following energy efficiency criteria.
- Property: You must be the owner of the property, whether it is your usual or secondary residence.
- Deadline: The installation must be completed before January 1, 2026.
- Energy Efficiency: 30% reduction in non-renewable primary energy consumption, or accredit an A or B energy certification.
Do you live in the Balearic Islands?
If you live in the Balearic Islands, you can apply a personal income tax deduction for the installation of solar panels. To do this, you need to present two key elements:
Energy efficiency certificates, one before and one after installation, to prove the improvement obtained.
Section A2 of the Income Tax Return, where you must correctly include the installation information.

Region of Murcia: Next Generation grants for solar self-consumption
In the Region of Murcia, there are available Next Generation grants aimed at improving the energy efficiency of homes by installing solar panels during 2025.
Homeowners can access a grant of up to 40% of the cost, with a maximum limit of 3,000€ per house.
Key dates
The application period is open until July 31, 2025, or until available funds are exhausted.
Who can request it?
Owners, usufructuaries or tenants can apply for this aid, provided that:
The home is your usual and permanent address at the time of the request.
The cost of the action is equal to or greater than €1,000 per home.
The works are carried out or in progress, provided that they have started after February 1, 2020 (individuals) or October 6, 2021 (legal entities).

Valencian Community: Next Generation Grants for solar self-consumption
If you live in the Valencian Community, you can benefit from Next Generation grants to boost solar energy in your home during 2025.
Homeowners can get up to the 40% of the installation cost, with a maximum of 3,000€ per house.
Key dates
The application deadline is January 23, 2025 Al February 27, 2026, or until the allocated funds are exhausted.
The administration has 3 months to solve. If you don't receive a response within that time frame, the aid is considered to have been dismissed.
Who can request it?
Aid can be accessed by owners, usufructuaries or tenants, provided that:
The home is your usual and permanent residence at the time of the application.
The cost of the installation is equal to or greater than €1,000 per home.
